Why boycotting google is not that easy?

 

Got irritated by popup ads? Blocked or rejected from any service? Privacy concern? Data security? Market monopoly? Whatever the reason be; have you ever thought of boycotting Tech giant Google? Thinking is okay but implementing your thought is not that easy. Here is why?

There is long list of google products. Here are some that I(a common people ) use.

• Gmail 
• Blogger
• Google maps 
• Google Chrome
• Google play 
• Google Analytics 
• Google Translate
•  Google AdSense
•  FeedBurner
•  AdMob 
• Google Drive
•  Google Hangouts 
• Android studio
•  Search console
•  Google classroom
•  Flutter 
•  reCaptcha 
• Google Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) 
• Google Firebase 

How hard is it to not use any Google products? And what are their alternatives if there is any. 

1.Andriod: First of all, you should consider buying iphone, switching to windows phone or other phone which is not using android.Not all apps are present in iOS and windows version. You have to say good bye to playStore and all your favorite android games.

2.Youtube: The free video platform YouTube has its own popularity.There are some alternatives but not that much popular. DailyMotion,Vimeo,The OpenVideo Project, Invidio.us are some examples.You were used to watching videos in YouTube collectively, Now you need to surf more internet to find specific videos in specific websites.

3.Mail: Gmail is an product of google.Now you have to shift to yahoo's yahoomail, Microsoft's outlook, or Apples's icloud mail. Or need to use your own domain specific mail services.There are some other mail services as well.

4. Google Map:Google map is another product you should detach from yourself.Even some websites embeds google map in their Pages.You have to avoid their products as well. Maps.me ,Bing Maps and MapQuest are some of the google map alternatives.

5. Search Engine: More than 90% of total search is done in google.You heard everybody saying, just goggle it.but you have decided not to go with crowd your choice would be  one  of these  search engines:-Bing,DuckDuckGo,yahoo.

6.Browser: Google's browser is chrome. If not chrome then go with Mozilla Firefox, Windows Edge, Tor.If you are in Mac then it's obviously Safari.

7.Translate: Certainly,there are some alternatives of google translate but not everyone has wide range of included languages as google does.And accuracy is always the issue of language translator. DeepL, Microsoft Translator, TripLingo etc are  some alternatives of google translator. 

8.Blogger: If you are blogger then you have to forget about free domain server blogspot and hosting server blogger. You can move to wordpress or wix or other platform but you are surely going to feel little uneasy as a beginner.

9. Social Apps: Text messaging application hangs out and video calling application duo and many more socializing apps are google product. But alternatives of these social apps are quite large in number.

10. Console and analytics:Google has search console and analytics for publishers to analyze trend of data. Bing webmaster tool,SEMrush,Ahrefs and various others are there as Google Search console alternatives.you can use Clicky, Simple Analytics, StatCounter in the place  Google analytics.

11. Advertise and revenue: Google has large advertising networks. Avoiding Google altogether means avoiding goolge adwords,adsense and admob as well.If you are advertiser facebook ad,twitter ads, bing ads etc would be your choice.In case of publisher Media.net , PropellerAds ,Infolinks, Amazon Native Shopping Ads, Adversal or other any advertising platform can be a alternative. 

12.Libraries,Apis,framework,IDEs: Google has various libraries,apis,frameworks  and ide.You are not going to use android studio any more.Flutter would not be in your list.you cant use Google apis like fonts ,Maps,Search api once you decided not to.All the frameworks and ide developed by google is not for you.

 

Don’t just get carried away. Your boycott has a very little effect on giant company. If google's monopoly is your issue, go for variety of service provider, use the best. If your problem is ads,use adblocker.If data security and privacy is your concern, use apps with caution. If you are punished and blocked from using some of features, read documentation and guide in official sites.

But again if you really think that google is not for you, find the best alternative for you first and go minimizing usage of google product slowly.Trying at once will only bring hurdles to you.
